SAN ANTONIO – HEB has launched a registration portal on its website for people who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, but there are no slots available because pharmacies are still waiting for more doses of the vaccine.
Registration will be available once HEB receives multiple vaccine allocations.
HEB no longer has COVID-19 vaccines, but the Texas grocer has asked to receive more.
“Once we have the vaccine, customers will be able to schedule on that site. We have no new vaccine allocation at this time, “said Dya Campos, a spokeswoman for KSAT.
All batches of previous HEB vaccines were administered to eligible Phase 1A clients, which includes health care workers, nursing home workers, and long-term care unit residents, as well as Phase 1B clients, which include people with age 65 and over, as well as people 18 years and older with at least one chronic illness, according to the website.
HEB has not yet accepted appointments for eligible customers in Phase 1C, which includes key frontline workers, and Phase 2, which includes the general public.
Pharmacies will still not accept accessories after HEB receives a higher allocation of COVID-19 vaccine due to the fragile shelf life of the vaccine, which requires its use within hours of opening a new bottle, according to HEB officials. Each vial of Covid-19 vaccine has 10 doses.
All vaccines that were previously allocated HEB were administered. Campos told KSAT in early January that “once supply becomes more readily available, we are ready to help vaccinate our communities on a large scale.”
HEB has requested several COVID-19 vaccines from the state of Texas and there will be no cost to receive a COVID-19 vaccine from the retailer.
