Actor and former California Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called US President Donald Trump the “worst president in history” and compared the attack on the Capitol to one of the most dramatic episodes of Nazism in Germany.
“Wednesday was Broken Glass Day here in the US, the broken glass was the windows of the Capitol. Not only did they open the doors of the building that houses American democracy, they trampled on the same principles this country was founded,” Schwarzenegger said in a powerful video message.
The actor also accused Trump of seeking “a coup (d’état) by deceiving people with his lies.”
Schwarzenegger, a native of Austria, referred to the so-called Night of Broken Glass in 1938, in which the Nazis attacked Jewish homes and businesses in Germany and served as a prelude to the Holocaust.
That horrible night was performed by “the Nazi equivalents of the Proud Boys,” he said, referring to the far-right group that took part in the march in Washington last Wednesday in support of Trump.
