Haiti will receive a free vaccine against Covid-19

The Republic of Haiti will obtain the vaccine against Covid-19 free of charge and will be provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), as explained by the Director of Communications of the Haitian Embassy in the Dominican Republic, José Luis Soto.

Soto explained that the Haitian nation is on a list that includes nine other Latin American countries that will benefit from the WHO.

The neighboring country, which commemorates 11 years since the January 12 earthquake, which left nearly 300,000 dead, was selected based on economic criteria and difficulty in access.

Bolivia, Dominica, the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent, El Salvador, Grenada, Guyana, Honduras and Nicaragua complete the list.

Immunizations for the undocumented

Last Friday, Dominican President Luis Abinader said at a luncheon with media directors that those undocumented migrants in the country would not be vaccinated against Covid-19 with the doses of vaccines the government administers.

Abinader assured that for Haitians and Venezuelans in the country illegally, the World Health Organization (WHO) will be asked to provide vaccines, because the country’s commitment is to vaccinate Dominicans.

Haiti’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Smith Agustín, was consulted by the press on the position of the Dominican head of state, after attending a mass in honor of the victims of the earthquake, but refused to give any statement on the matter.

However, he said vaccination began with his compatriots in Haiti.
