Tokyo, Japan. – Less than seven months before the opening date and with the worst pandemic in the world, the Tokyo Olympics continue to falter.
According to two polls in the Asian country, more than 80% of people believe that the maximum of the sports fair should be canceled or postponed.
The polls were conducted by the Kyodo news agency and the TBS television network.
The organizers of Tokyo 2021 have remained optimistic that the competition may start on July 23, one year after the initial date of 2020, but the increase in Covid-19 cases in the Japanese capital is a major obstacle.
The TBS poll asked 1,261 people if the Games should be held and 81% said no against 13% who said yes. The negative answer had an increase of 18% compared to December.
The other poll, from Kyodo, was very similar to 80.1 of those interviewed who gave a “no”.
