JCE does not accept the PLD’s request and gives the parties until Friday to comment on the order in the ballots

The plenary session of the Central Electoral Council did not accept the request of the Dominican Liberation Party to hold a public hearing to hear the views of various organizations on the numerical order of the parties on the ballots.

The request was made on January 8 by PLD, but the plenary session had already taken the decision two days earlier and notified the parties about it.

The plenary session, chaired by Román Jáquez, decided to send a communication to the parties so that they could express their views in writing, in view of the situation in the country due to the coronavirus, and granted a deadline of the 15th of this month to for them to send opinions.

“This body, recognizing the existence of 27 parties and 6 political movements and, in order to provide the indicated process with all the guarantees of transparency, provides that, upon expiry of the time limit given to the parties, groups and political movements for that opinion, and that ends on Friday, January 15, 2021, this body will notify all parties, groups and political movements, on January 18, 2021, the opinions that were submitted to the Central Electoral Council by the date mentioned above January 15 (15), 2021 ”.

It is added that “once the indicated opinions are notified to each party, group or political movement, they will have a period until Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at two o’clock (14:00) in the afternoon to formulate in writing, through the secretariat. generally, such observations or objections as it deems appropriate with regard to the views expressed by other political parties, groups and movements’ and that the JCE will then study them and subsequently ‘issue the appropriate decision’.

The decision was adopted in its ordinary administrative session of January 6, 2021, in the minutes 01-2021) and notified to each of the delegations of parties, groups and political movements by communication on the 7th of this month. a day later, on January 8, the PLD requested a public hearing.
