The New York City Fire Department has provided information to the FBI about multiple members who were allegedly in the Capitol when rioters attacked the building.
A spokesperson for the FDNY confirmed that several of its members reportedly identified themselves in Wednesday’s riot that led to the deaths of four people and a Capitol police officer.
“The Department has received anonymous allegations that active or retired members attended the events at the United States Capitol on January 6 and, as required, provided that information to the FBI,” said Frank Dwyer, a spokesman for the FDNY .
An image circulated on Twitter after Wednesday’s riot involved a person standing just outside the building in clothing with “FDNY Squad 252” printed on the back. Dwyer told the NY Post that the man in the photo was “not an active member of the department.”
At least 16 individuals have been arrested and charged with federal crimes so far for their involvement in violence that took place at the Capitol building, NBC News reports.
On Saturday, the heavily photographed man with a horned helmet and spear was arrested; like the man seen with a lectern.
