The switch has now sold more units than the 3DS

As of December 26, 2020, according to sales tracking site VGChartz, Nintendo Switch has finally sold the 3DS, reaching approximately 76,285,948 units sold. 3DS, launched in 2011, has sold 75,906,986 units so far.

Wikipedia’s “Best-selling Game Console List” page hasn’t been updated at the time of writing, but Switch’s increased sales at the end of last year – no doubt due to Christmas purchases – would make it A 11 -the best-selling console of all time, behind the Game Boy, Wii and Nintendo DS family. The switch has a way to go until it reaches the top five, however – the limit is 102 million units sold.

However, once the Switch sold more than any other combined console last year, we could see the growth of a worthy successor to sales throughout the Wii (101.63 million). It’s also worth noting that the 3DS has been out for almost ten years, and the Switch has managed to make the same number of sales in just under four years – and given the predictions that a Switch Pro could be seen in this year, that number may just go up.
