Originally from Mexico City, Ramón Antonio Esteban Gómez de Valdés y Castillo was born on September 2, 1923. He grew up in a humble and large family who later moved to Ciudad Juárez when he was two years old.

His first acting debut was in 1949 with a small role in the film “Calabacitas tender” (1949) in which he participated with his brother Germán Valdés, who introduced him to the arts.

He landed additional roles and a few supporting roles, in addition to participating in films during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

In 1968 he began to exploit his talent in the hands of Roberto Gómez Bolaños, projects such as “Los supergenios de la mesaquare” (1968), “Chespirito” (1970) and “El Chapulín Colorado” (1973) and “El Chavo del 8 “(1971) where Valdés will gain international fame for playing the character of Don Ramón.

After leaving “Chavo del 8” in 1979, Ramón Valdés also participated with Carlos Villagrán in the Venezuelan program Federrico and in 1987 in “Ah ce Kiko!”.

Valdés was heavily addicted to tobacco, which led to serious health problems that took his life due to the stomach cancer he suffered. He finally passed away at the age of 64, after a relentless struggle against this condition.
