Miya Ponsetto, 22, was arrested Thursday during a traffic stop at her home in Piru, located in Ventura County, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Authorities say she has been arrested for “a fugitive warrant in connection with a recent attack on a New York City hotel.”
She was booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura and is being held without bail, the sheriff’s office said.
Ponsetto was approached by a deputy during a traffic stop at her home.
“She did not stop for deputy sheriff until she reached her residence, and she refused to get out of the car. Deputies forcibly removed her from the vehicle and arrested her for the outstanding warrant,” the press release said.
What happened in New York City
The alleged attack took place at the Arlo SoHo boutique hotel in New York City last month.
Trumpeter Keyon Harrold posted a video taken with his phone that shows the woman making claims against his son.
Harrold and his son are Black and were guests at the hotel in Lower Manhattan. The ethnicity of the woman in the video is not clear, although New York police described her as White.
In the video, when Harrold and his son are trying to leave, the woman comes up to them and says, “I’m not letting him walk away with my phone.” The video then shows her on the floor, but it’s unclear how she got there. She approaches them again and the teen’s father is heard calling out to keep her hands off before the video ends.
In his Instagram post, Harrold said the woman scratched him and grabbed his son. He told NBC that after the video was interrupted, the woman “tackled my son, you know, trying to reach into his pockets, reach into my pockets.”
Harrold sustained minor injuries, but his son was not injured, New York police said.
CNN spoke to Ponsetto on the phone last week.
She claimed she was attacked during the altercation. CNN has not been able to confirm its story to the investigators or to the hotel where the incident took place. She disputed Harrold’s account of what had happened.
When asked if she is concerned about possible charges and in general how she is portrayed in the video, she said, “Of course I worry. That’s not who I am. I’m actually doing my very best to make sure. that I always do the right thing. “
According to the sheriff’s office, NYPD detectives were also on hand to coordinate Ponsetto’s arrest.
According to the press release, she will remain in custody pending an extradition hearing.
It is unclear whether she hired a lawyer.
