The Simpsons also predicted the attack on the Capitol

The storming of the Washington Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump who refuse to accept Joe Biden’s victory in the last presidential election is a historic and surprising chapter … or not so much? And the truth is, The Simpsons, like many other things, predicted it a long time ago.

Matt Groening’s ability to anticipate all kinds of disasters and events is well known, from the coronavirus pandemic to Disney’s purchase of Fox through Trump’s own victory, the end of Game of Thrones or the plague of deadly bees. And the violent attack on the Capitol is no less, since the series showed it back in March 1996.

In the chapter “The Day the Violence Died,” Episode 18 of Season 7, there is a specific moment that has some disturbing similarities to the images of the attack on US Congress headquarters going around the world.

And in fact, it’s not the only time The Simpsons have featured an attack on the Capitol, as a more recent episode of the fiction showed the Washington Building on fire.

This coincidence has again unleashed the memes that, with sharpness and irony, expand the yellow family’s supposed ability to predict the future.

To date, four people have been killed in the protests and a further 52 have been arrested by Washington Metropolitan Police. Meanwhile, polling stations in the House and Senate continue, with a clear victory for Joe Biden.
