KFC starts in 2021, entering the chicken sandwich wars.

The latest addition to the Yum Brands chain will replace the Crispy Colonel sandwich in an effort to gain an advantage over its rivals.

The contest started more than a year ago with the launch of Popeyes’ version of the classic object, which has crispy chicken on a muffin bun with butter or mayo or spicy Cajun sauce. Since its inception, the sandwich has helped drive double-digit sales growth in the same store for the Restaurant Brands International chain each quarter.

McDonald’s will enter the ring next month. Everyone is trying to steal some of the momentum that Chick-fil-A has seen in recent years, becoming the third largest restaurant chain after sales, behind McDonald’s and Starbucks.

As of Thursday, the KFC sandwich is available at select restaurants in Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Oregon, Louisville, Kentucky, Sacramento, California and Tulsa, Oklahoma. By the end of February, it will be available nationwide in all of KFC’s 4,000 U.S. restaurants. The three McDonald’s chicken sandwiches will debut on February 24 in the USA

In the spring, KFC tested the sandwich in Orlando, Florida, and the item nearly doubled its initial sales projections.

“Many customers did not consider KFC a part of the conversation with the chicken sandwich, but anyone who tastes this sandwich will no doubt know that we are playing to win,” said Andrea Zahumensky, marketing director of KFC US

The sandwich consists of a quarter-pound chicken breast fillet, which was double bread, a bun toasted with brioche, pickles and mayo or spicy sauce. The KFC version is similar in ingredients to those of Popeyes, McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A. They all use a loaf of bread, muffin buns and pickles. The main difference is the method of frying and frying, which affects the texture and flavor.

Yum shares, which have a market value of $ 31.8 billion, have risen 3% in the last year. While KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell have recovered rapidly in the US, its international locations have taken longer to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
