A 20,000-square-foot mansion in California is up for auction – and at a asking price of $ 160 million, it could become the most expensive house to ever go under the hammer.

The 13-bedroom Villa Firenze is set on more than 9 acres of land in Beverly Hills and can be accessed via its own private street, according to Concierge Auctions, which handles the sale. The home has vaulted ceilings, multiple fireplaces and 25 bathrooms, while the larger property has three separate guest houses.

The closed mansion is located in the exclusive North Beverly Park neighborhood, hosting celebrities, including Rod Stewart, Denzel Washington and Sylvester Stallone, according to a press release.

Designed by Californian architect William Hablinski, the property is described by the auction house as an “authentic Italian village”.

Outdoor facilities include a jogging track, swimming pool, jacuzzi, swimming pool, tennis court and a large enough yard for 30 cars.

“This is truly an impossible masterpiece to recreate,” the property owner said in a press release. “Many of the most coveted and coveted items in the world are sold at auction – and like them, Villa Firenze is also a work of art in itself.”

The luxury home was listed by Hilton & Hyland real estate agents for $ 160 million, which, if realized, would make it the most expensive residential property ever sold at auction, Concierge Auctions said.

Despite the apparent risk, auction house chairman Chad Roffers said auctions could be a better bet for people selling properties at the end of the market.

“When it comes to properties valued at over $ 10 million – not to mention $ 100 million plus – the buyer’s fund is extremely limited, which usually leads to months and years on the market,” Roffers said in -an e-mail interview, adding that the traditional method of selling has its limits.

In 2018, before it was put up for auction, Villa Firenze had been listed for sale at a reported asking price of $ 165 million.

“In Beverly Hills, the average number of days on the market in 2019 was 324,” Roffers said. “Our research shows that if a luxury property is not sold within 90 days, it is likely to remain on the market for the next three to five years and eventually sell for a fraction of the original price. “

The auction will take place online for eight days, starting on January 26.
