The search for the Jets coach takes them to their own backyard.
Gang Green asked to interview Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, according to the NFL Network, after firing coach Adam Gase on Sunday night.
Graham, a 41-year-old Yale product, has gained a lot of attention this season, leading the Giants’ 17-12 Seahawks upset in Week 13. Under his watch this season, the Giants finished in place. 12 in the general defense and in ninth place in the defense of the score.
Graham has joined the staff of Joe Judge’s Giants – the second internship with the team – this season, after spending time with the Patriots, Packers and Dolphins. Graham expects it to be a hot commodity, as the head coach opens up jobs in the NFL, with six vacancies already.
Probably joining the Jets in search of Graham – who has certainly been named “Black Picasso” for his defensive exploits – are the Atlanta Falcons, the Detroit Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Chargers.
