Kevin Durant is facing a 7-day quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure

NEW YORK – After being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant faces a week of quarantine as part of the league’s health and safety protocols, sources told ESPN .

Durant, who had COVID-19 in May, continued to register coronavirus antibodies, sources said. On Monday afternoon, Durant tested negative for coronavirus three times, sources said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, antibodies are “proteins that help fight infections and can provide protection against the recurrence of that disease.” Scientists are still unsure of the degree of immunity that antibodies offer against re-infection. NBA’s COVID-19 protocols do not distinguish between players who have antibodies and those who do not.

In the week that Durant is scheduled to miss, Brooklyn is scheduled to play Utah, Philadelphia, Memphis and Oklahoma City.

Durant, who missed the entire 2019-20 season by rehabilitating an Achilles injury, started in all six Nets games this year. He has an average of 28.2 points, 7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game in 34 minutes of play.
