Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson is the first NFL defender to rush 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons and claims to be the best dual threat in league history.
With his speed burning and falling evasiveness, Jackson reached 1,000 meters with a 7-meter fight in the third quarter on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The reigning NFL MVP entered Sunday’s game, needing 92 yards in a hurry to reach this stage.
Jackson is ready to become the second defender to win the NV MVP and reach the playoffs in his first three seasons in the league, joining Dan Marino. The Ravens can get a wild card berth by defeating Cincinnati.
The only other defender to rush 1,000 yards in a season was Michael Vick in 2006. Jackson eclipsed 1,000 yards in two of his first three NFL seasons, setting a quarterback record last season. with 1,206 meters.
For quarterbacks, posting big seasons in the back had been elusive. Before Jackson, the last two defenders who rushed more than 900 meters in one season (Randall Cunningham and Vick) recorded less than 600 meters in the following season.
Jackson’s run launched the Baltimore race in the postseason. In winning four consecutive games, which came on Sunday, Jackson had an average of 83.2 meters in a hurry.
