PARIS (AP) – Ravers at an underground party that destroyed New Year’s Eve, which drew at least 2,500 people to western France, attacked police sent to close them, burning one of their vehicles and injuring volleyball officers. bottles and stones, officials said Friday.
Ravers aboard hundreds of vehicles began converging on hangars in Lieuron, Brittany, on Thursday night to spend the New Year, the regional government said in a statement on Friday.
Police and their vehicles were attacked when they tried to stop the rioters from installing their party equipment, he said.
Some officers suffered minor injuries, the statement said. On Friday morning, 2,500 ravers from France and abroad were still having parties, surrounded by a well-established police presence, he said. First aid workers distributed masks and hand gels to try to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Prosecutors are examining a number of possible criminal charges. The party also took place despite national domination of France between 20:00 and 06:00, in order to discourage public gatherings during the pandemic.
