LG launches new QNED Mini LED TVs before CES 2021

It’s almost a new year, and LG is ready to celebrate with another new TV technology acronym: QNED Mini LED TV, a new TV series launched at the LG Virtual CES Expo on January 11, 2021. QNED TVs have quantum dots. and LG NanoCell technology in their displays for improved brightness and color reproduction, but more importantly, these new TVs will be powered by up to 30,000 mini LEDs that add more dimming areas than ever to this premium range.

Despite the noise surrounding these new QNED TVs, LG has made sure to claim that they are one step below the company’s flagship OLED TVs, which offer emissive display technology that allows each individual pixel to turn on and off independently for a Contrast the leader’s brightest and darkest images on the screen. While mini LEDs are smaller than traditional backlights, there are no “emitted displays” like OLED and Samsung’s new MicroLED technology, so they can’t create the same level of contrast.

However, the new QNED TVs could be a success for those looking for a brighter alternative to OLED displays. We can also expect QNED TVs to be cheaper than LG’s comparable OLED TVs. Their most direct competitors today are the 8 series TCL LED mini TVs and the Samsung QLED TVs.

“Our new QNED Mini LED series is a premium home entertainment option that expands and enhances the LCD TV space and offers consumers another great viewing choice,” said Nam Ho-jun, senior vice president of research and development at LG Home. Entertainment Company.

LG says its QNED 2021 line will include a total of 10 new 4K and 8K models, for a wide range of screen sizes and price points. The top QNED TV, an 8-inch 8-inch monster, will have up to 2,500 adjustable areas for exceptional contrast, along with (we expect) impressive brightness and color reproduction thanks to its mix of other display technologies such as quantum dots. To put things in perspective, this equates to up to 10 times the number of dimming areas you’ll see on traditional LED TVs.

At its Jan. 11 virtual show, LG will have a live show of its new 8-inch 86-inch QNED TV, which it hopes will give the company a market edge over rivals such as Samsung and TCL. We’ll have to wait and see if QNED can be proud of the other Mini-LED TVs available today, but LG’s other OLED and LED offerings give us confidence that its new alphabetical entry in the TV acronym library will be a worthy one.
