The project follows Lebowitz, known for your humor and social comments, as they tour the city with which it has become synonymous.
“Fran Lebowitz knows what he likes – and what he doesn’t like. And he won’t wait for an invitation to tell you,” Netflix says of the project set for its January 8 launch.
It also includes interviews with the 70-year-old essayist, allowing her to mourn the problems she sees in her city – in the trailer, Lebowitz targets the subway system and the existence of a bookstore in the middle of Times Square.
“For decades, the critic and essayist has been expressing their opinions, sometimes comfortingly, always outraged,” Netflix said.
“A New Yorker to the end, Lebowitz raised the conversation straight with an art form, wrapping her meaningless remarks about the city and its people in a harsh, unparalleled comment.”
The project sees Scorsese return to the streaming platform, following the release of his 2019 epic film “The Irishman”, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.
On January 7, Netflix will launch another production overseen by the legendary director. “Women’s Pieces”, an executive produced by Scorsese, follows a couple who are sailing after a miscarriage.
The New Year period is usually a busy one for new streaming service launches, and Netflix sees increased competition from newer rivals.
