Apex Legends, Titanfall, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order developer Respawn Entertainment has been extremely busy in recent years and some new information has emerged indicating that the studio will not slow down any time soon. Not only has Respawn worked hard on all of these titles mentioned above, but he seems to be starting to form a team to develop a completely new IP.
Seen in a new list of Respawn jobs, the studio is actively looking to hire for the role of generalist software engineer. Although this would usually be nothing to write about at home, it is said that the position would be specifically for a new team that is set up internally to work on a new property. Respawn obviously does not suggest what this new IP might look like, but he notes that this team is currently quite small and is still in the “incubation” stage.
This last point is quite interesting because it could indicate what type of project Respawn could work on. If this team is meant to be small throughout the development of this title, it could be a game with a smaller scale compared to what we are used to in the studio. Again, this development team could easily grow in the future, once the idea of this new franchise has been properly realized.
It is worth noting that if Respawn is trying to commit to a new project, it may be bad news for those who are still hoping for a third. Titanfall entry. With Apex Legends developers continue to work on the multiplayer title and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order The team definitely starts to work away on a continuation, it’s hard to see where a third Titanfall the game fits, especially if this new group creates something completely new.
One thing is for sure with this move – Respawn is growing to a fairly significant degree. Not only did the studio juggle all the aforementioned games, but it just released a new VR Medal of honor game called Above and beyond earlier this month. In short, Respawn is becoming one of the largest studios owned by Electronic Arts.
Given how early in development this job description makes the mysterious project come to fruition, there is a good chance we won’t hear about this public title for quite some time. However, whenever it happens, we’ll keep you posted here on ComicBook.com.
