This phrase corresponds to Leonardo Da Vinci and in such a concrete and radical way makes us reflect on the importance of our eyes. It is essential to take care of them and practice them, along with giving them rest.

Adopting new routines due to the pandemic, such as increased exposure to blue screens due to home office, online education and hours in front of TV or mobile devices have triggered new potential risks to visual health.

A survey conducted by Lentesplus.com, a pioneer in the online sale of contact lenses, found that 76% of respondents increased their exposure to screens during closure, leading to an increase in symptoms such as dry eyes, fatigue or eye fatigue , temporary blurred vision and headaches with visual effort.

Protecting and exercising the gaze

Practicing yoga for vision invites you to explore the vision of the world and the space around us, to the depths of self-observation and meditative attitude. It proposes to bring the awareness of the gaze as an anchor for asanas, as well as eye exercises that, together with breathing sequences, strengthen the body, mind and spirit.

Yoga for vision from Lentesplus.com, together with the Power of Healing, proposes exercises with 4 objectives: relaxation, relaxing the 6 muscles of the eyes and avoiding retinal exhaustion; toning, to develop strong and elastic eye muscles; accommodation, which favors the focus of objects; and purification, which allows a greater supply of blood to the eyes.

Here are some simple exercises to practice daily and raise awareness of habits such as blinking, which you tend to forget while using electronic devices or looking into the distance and not just objects a few feet away, such as be the screens from the ones we got used to during the pandemic.

1. Aim your gaze at a distant point, find the deepest point where you can look, and allow the view to focus correctly. Then, keeping your head still, move your eyes to the right, to the left, up and down and out of the corner of your eye, always as far away as possible.

2. Look up and from there start turning your eyes in circles to the right and then to the left without moving your head. This exercise is very effective in strengthening muscles that are weaker. Do this 3 times in each direction.

3. Look up and this time imagine that you are drawing a square with your eyes. Try to keep as large a square as possible and do not cut any corners. First taking it to the right and then to the left.

4. Extend your right arm forward, with your hand closed and your thumb up. Fix your gaze on your thumb and move it very slowly to the right, aiming your thumb to the right as much as you can without moving your head from the starting position. Then repeat the exercise on the left.

5. Close your eyes with the ring finger of each hand, gently massage the eyeballs and eyelashes using small circular motions. Do it for two minutes.

It is recommended to perform the exercises without glasses or contact lenses, to keep your back straight and relaxed, to blink between the different exercises, to introduce breathing patterns and to accompany the sessions with neck and shoulder movements. Careful practice is suggested at least once a day.
