Alan Tacher finds the balance between Christmas and Hanukkah

“It’s the first time I’ve planted a Christmas tree at home,” he said. Alan tacher, host of “Despierta América” at EL UNIVERSAL. And he is a Jew, but his wife, Cristy Bernal, is a Catholic, so every year on these holidays, Cristy traveled to Monterrey to celebrate this holiday with her family and two young children, while Alan had to work. But pandemic It was freeing Alan these days, and Cristy couldn’t travel, so they decided to share both beliefs at home.

“I’m Jewish and I don’t celebrate Christmas as such, so my wife, who is Catholic – I convince her little by little, but it costs me a little work – in the week she was Hanukkah (from 10 to 18 December), we celebrate it together, we give the children a few presents, we have a tree, I have never put a Christmas tree in my life because I did not celebrate it, as a child they invited me at Friends’ Houses to celebrate them and I was happy, now is the first time there is a Christmas tree and we will see if Santa Claus will do it as if it were there (in Monterrey).

The couple managed to find a middle ground in terms of their beliefs, and the TV presenter assured that they want to continue to do so, so that the two young children know both cultures.

“The Hanukkah party takes place in eight days and you make small gifts, we instill this in them and they already know Christmas at school, for now we leave them like that, they have these two religions with their variants, but if I do Ask, I would like for my children to be inclined to Judaism, she has no problem, but we also want them to have the option to decide ”.

This year was not easy for them, because they went through a tough series of Covid, which, they say, left them.

“Yes, the truth is that we had sequels, maybe less now because it happened to us in July, but we had sequels. I had a lot of insomnia after Covid gave us, I couldn’t sleep, I stayed up at night without knowing what was happening, for me this was the most important thing. But for my wife, it seems incredible, but true and is that, after so many months, sometimes the problem of taste and smell fails.
