Santo Domingo, RD.
Director General of Public Procurement, Carlos Pimentel, assured that Maxy Montilla, brother of Cándida Montilla, wife of former president Danilo Medina, sHe could have contracts with the state.
Pimentel’s request comes after the millionaire contracts of Maxy and Alexander Montilla Sierra, Cándida’s brothers, with Empresas Distribuidoras de Electricidad came to light –Edenorte, Edesur, Edeeste– and the Rural and Suburban Electrification Unit (EBU).
Similarly, Pimentel assured that, although the law does not prohibit it, the investigation carried out in this case could detect a certain type of irregularity in the contracts with these companies.
“Yes, I could have contracts, but this is a basic and simple element of the employment system of the Dominican Republic, after which it becomes more complex and deeper and probably along the way other situations will be detected that go beyond what the administrative system establishes for acquisitions and contracts, ”he said when interviewed on the El Día program.
He clarified that the Law on Acquisitions and Contracts stipulates that members of the fourth degree of affinity family may have contractual relations with the state and institutions, other than the one in which a member of their family is a minister or director.
When interviewed by journalist Alicia Ortega on the program El Informe, the former lady’s brother denied that his relationship with former President Medina would have given him the means to win the offers he obtained from electricity distribution companies.
He assured that his merits were not due to his family ties, but to the work he had done for years, even before Medina’s efforts.
He also indicated that the initial success of his companies as state suppliers dates back to 2009, where he stated that he has the vision to venture into the Chinese market, in order to establish a commercial structure there.
