NASA abandons the thrilling Mars mission trailer to land the Perseverance rover

The trailer for the NASA mission shows that the Perseverance rover lands dramatically on Mars.

NASA JPL

NASA’s Perseverance Rover cooled in space, listening to his own heat-repellent fluid pump, as he heads to Mars for a meeting with destiny on February 18, 2021. Landing is no joke. It is a burning, full and dangerous moment that will make or break the mission.

The space agency has launched a “mission trailer” for Perseverance entry or landing or EDL operations. Set on growing music and with some intense animations, it will make you run into your calendar and put a big red circle around February 18th next year.

The video shows what the end of the rover’s 470 million-kilometer journey will look like. The animation covers everything from arrival to parachute to actual landing, because the rover is placed (hopefully slightly) on the surface of the red planet.

NASA will provide live landing coverage, although it will not look like a Hollywood-style mission trailer for arrival. Perseverance is equipped with a suite of cameras to capture EDL, so we could finally get some incredible views of the process.

Once on Mars, Perseverance will begin a mission to search for signs of ancient life, fly in a helicopter and collects samples of rock and dust that NASA hopes to bring to Earth one day. Yes, it’s a big deal.
