LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Some positive news came out of Governor COVID-19’s briefing on Monday, while Governor Andy Beshear said several issues in the COVID report show a plateau period.
The total number of COVID-19 cases per week, the number of hospitalizations and COVID patients in the ICU are just a few of the daily reports that are trending in Kentucky in the last two weeks.
“It’s not very often that we end up celebrating these kinds of achievements in healthcare and being one of the right reasons,” said Dr. Steven Stack, Kentucky Department of Public Health.
It is something that has even been recognized nationally, the Washington Post published an article with figures that show that Kentucky is the only state in the country where the capacity for intensive care is lower now than it was three months ago.
“Every Kentuckian who has sacrificed in this last round of restrictions, every Kentuckian who wears a mask every day, every Kentuckian who obeys the rules, look at this,” Governor Beshear said. “I hope that makes you proud because that’s your job.”
Compared to our border states alone, the data show that Kentucky has fewer COVID-related cases and deaths than any state except West Virginia, and we also have the lowest mortality rate.
It’s an impact Lexington emergency physician, Dr. Ryan Stanton, said he noticed directly that he had to travel across state lines to work.
“I just felt like the Kentuckers in general were a little better, a little more mask-friendly, a little more distance-oriented, and honestly just a little more aware than other places I was traveling with. motor sports. ” Dr. Stanton said. “It’s always nice to come here and I always felt a little safer when I was in and around Bluegrass.”
It’s a ranking, health experts urge Kentuckians to go especially for the holidays.
“The ball is in your yard, folks,” Dr. Stack said. “We have to go through the next two weeks and not cause a horrible self-inflicted wound.”
