Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

A sixteenth resident of Humboldt County died after testing positive for COVID-19, and another 113 cases of the virus were reported on Friday. The total number of residents of the county who gave positive results now amounts to 1,500.

The person who died was 80 years old and a patient at the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center of Granada at the time of death, the seventh death related to COVID connected to the unit. Dr. Ian Hoffman, Humboldt County Health Officer, said public health extends its sympathies to all families who have lost loved ones all year and this holiday season.

The daily and weekly data sets in the Humboldt County dashboard have been updated. Some important aspects include:

• The county has seen an increase of over 11% in cases in the last week, and the time to double the cases is now 33 days.
• The confirmed case rate in Humboldt County is 1,119 per 100,000 residents, compared to the state rate of 4,693 and the US rate of 5,420 per 100,000 residents.
• The 20-29 age group represents the highest number of local cases, with just over 27%. Six county residents in this age group were hospitalized with COVID-19.

Dr. Hoffman said, these hospitalizations that we see in younger groups are a reminder that this disease does not only affect very old people and should further strengthen our determination to do our part to stop this pandemic.
