McDonald’s sells “Spam burger” with breadcrumbs in China

BEIJING (AP) – McDonald’s is selling a Spam sandwich covered in crushed Oreo cookies in China on Monday, in an eye-catching move that has raised eyebrows.

Global brands from restaurants to carmakers sometimes launch unusual products to appeal to Chinese tastes in the populated and highly competitive market.

This is undoubtedly one of them.

“I found it delicious,” said a comment signed by Feifei Mao Enthusiast on the Sina Weibo microblogging service. “Is that because I love McDonald’s too deeply?” Or is there something wrong with my taste? “

The sandwich consists of two slices of spam, a product of Hormel Foods LLC, and Oreo cookies of Mondelez International, covered with mayonnaise.

McDonald’s Corp. said the sandwich is part of a series of “member-only” promotions to be launched in China on Monday.

“We don’t need to launch unnecessary products,” said a comment on the company’s microblog account. He received over 2,000 “appreciations”.

McDonald’s has said it intends to sell no more than 400,000 Lunchmeat Burgers. It was not clear how many were sold or how many people who flooded social media with stingy comments ate one.

“When you hate someone, but you have to invite them to dinner, you can ask them to eat the McDonald’s Oreo hamburger with lunch,” a separate comment told Sina Weibo.
