Side effects of COVID-19 cause Advocate Condell Medical Center to temporarily discontinue vaccinations; Sunday resumption program

LIBERTYVILLE, Illinois (WLS) – After a thorough internal review, Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville resumes its COVID-19 immunization schedule beginning Sunday.

The program was halted on Friday night after four employees had reactions shortly after receiving the vaccine. Officials said no other cases had been reported to Attorney Aurora Health.

“So the immediate concern was, there is something wrong with that batch of vaccines, but after discussions with our health departments and also understanding that the same batch of vaccine has been used on several other sites, both in Inside and outside the health of lawyer Aurora and no other serious concerns were reported. We felt that there were no real concerns about the integrity of the vaccine, “said Dr. Robert Citronberg, executive medical director for infectious disease and prevention.

One of the four cases appeared to be a severe allergic reaction. The staff is doing well and was discharged on Saturday. The other three showed mild reactions that may occur after vaccination.

“I can tell you that one of the team members who had an easier reaction was discharged at home was a doctor from our medical staff and we contacted that doctor [Saturday] who felt great and said he is 100% behind the continuous vaccination of our population, “said Dr. Citronberg.

The Lake County Department of Health issued a statement:

“As COVID-19 vaccinations take place in Lake County, we continue to closely monitor their safety and effectiveness. Monitoring for side effects is part of the standard vaccine process and some minor reactions are not expected to occur, as some people respond to vaccinations differently than others. “

As a precaution, Attorney Aurora Health increases its post-vaccine evaluation period to 30 minutes for all individuals on all of their sites. They continue to encourage employees to get vaccinated, but it is not mandatory.
