Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar said Thursday night that his wife, Jennifer, had tested positive for Covid-19, according to an email distributed by HHS.
“Today, my family found out that my wife Jennifer tested positive for Covid-19,” Azar wrote in an email. He added that his wife “scrupulously followed public health instructions” and self-isolated immediately after the initial symptoms and even after receiving a negative diagnosis from an initial instant test. A subsequent molecular test, which is more reliable, showed that it is positive, Azar added.
Azar said he and his children had negative results and no symptoms. The HHS secretary also said he will continue to work on the advice of his doctor and public health experts, such as CDC Director Robert Redfield.
