A suburban hospital temporarily suspended coronavirus vaccinations on Friday after four team members had side effects.
On Thursday, Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville said four people who received the COVID-19 vaccine had tingling and a high heart rate shortly after the injection.
“Out of an abundance of precaution, we are temporarily stopping vaccinations at Condell, which will allow us to better understand what these reactions may be causing,” the health center said in a statement.
Aurora Health’s lawyer recalled that the four people who had side effects accounted for less than 0.15% of the approximately 3,000 people who had received vaccinations in their health system so far.
The health center said that since Friday, three members of the team are at home and “doing well”, while one person receives additional treatment.
“The reactions are an expected side effect of vaccination. We are encouraged by our team members who are eager to get the vaccine to protect themselves and others and end this pandemic,” said lawyer Aurora Health.
Attorney Aurora Health has eight more vaccination locations in Illinois and three in Wisconsin, all of which are continuing vaccinations as planned.
