Massive blockade blocks over 1,000 drivers overnight in Japan

More than 1,000 drivers in Japan were forced to spend the night stranded in a 9-mile hell blockage caused by a snowstorm, according to a report on Friday.

The commuter nightmare on the Kanetsu Highway – which connects Tokyo to Niigata Prefecture – lasted more than 40 hours in some sections, blocking drivers without food or water, CNN reported.

The terrible traffic began when a car was buried in the snow during a blizzard Wednesday night – causing traffic to be stopped, the outlet reported, citing the company operating the artery, the Nippon Expressway Company.

The number of tortured drivers who then went to a high on Thursday night – reaching about 9.3 miles while emergency services distributed bread, rice balls and bottled water.

On Friday, the lanes coming out of Tokyo were cleared – but at least 1,000 drivers heading to the city were still stuck in the snowy dirt, the outlet reported.

Meanwhile, New York City had its own snowstorm this week, and winter storm Gail almost threw a snowball on the Big Apple on Wednesday night.
