Derek Carr could be wasting more time.
The Raiders defender suffered a significant groin injury Thursday night and is expected to be eliminated in 10-14 days, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. This would call Carr’s status into doubt for next Saturday’s survival match against the Dolphins, although it will push him to play if possible, Rapoport added. Coach Jon Gruden said Friday that it is 50-50 if his QB1 will be available for week 16.
Carr was injured while being sacked in the first quarter of the Las Vegas overtime loss to the Chargers, interrupting what was easily one of his best seasons.
The counterattack also opened Marcus Mariota’s debut in the Raiders. The former Titans starter impressed as he completed 17 of 28 passes for 226 meters with a touchdown and an interception, while rushing nine times for 88 meters and a score.
Mariota will now prepare to make her first start in more than a year, her new team fighting for playoff life no less. At 7-7, the Raiders must defeat Miami and then the Broncos in Week 17 and also receive help to end a three-year playoff drought.
