90 out of 95 tests in a Michigan prison for the highly contagious version of COVID in the UK have returned positive

Ionia, Michigan – Michigan officials said Tuesday that at least 90 cases of the highly contagious variant COVID-19 first identified in the UK have been confirmed in a prison here. Officials from the Department of Health and Human Services said only five of the 95 tests administered did not test positive.

Moreover, the results of another 100 tests at the Bellamy Creek Correction Center were still pending as of late Tuesday night.

All but two of the two people who tested positive were detained. The other two were staff members, officials said.

The testing was started in prison after it was found that an employee has the option.

But officials pointed out that the number of positive COVIDA results began to decline with the start of daily testing.

Additional precautions against COVID were implemented at the facility as soon as the variant was found there, officials added. Daily testing was one of the new steps.
