Little Jaslyn Adams’ family said her father was also shot, but he survived. In the wake of the horror, the family tried to fight their loss.

“It’s really exciting for my family now,” said Jaslyn’s aunt, Tawny McMullen.

McMullen’s words were tearful and painful when he remembered the 7-year-old as funny and cheerful.

“It was just the sweet and outgoing one; really talkative; really adorable, ”McMullen said.

The family spoke just outside Stroger Hospital in Cook County, where the girl died.

A Chicago police officer rushed her there about two miles away, where she was found in a car full of bullets – parked in a McDonald’s drive-thru at 3200 West Roosevelt Road on Kedzie Boulevard.

At least 30 cases surrounded the vehicle after the shooting at 16:18. The colored windows on the side were shot.

Bullet holes were also left in the frame and in the rear window.

Investigators said Jaslyn was hit several times around her body. The family said her father, Jontae Adams, 29, was also hit.

Chicago police said the 29-year-old was shot in the upper body. He was also taken to Stroger Hospital in Cook County, where he was reported in serious condition and was expected to survive.

Jaslyn’s grandmother told CBS 2 that Jontae Adams called her as soon as the shooting took place, saying, “They shot my baby!”

Chicago police are now looking at the perpetrators.

It was unclear on Sunday night whether the shooting was aimed, but officers did not say the public was in danger.

But for now, a family is devastated that their innocent daughter has disappeared – someone who simply loved TikTok videos and laughed.

“Please put your guns down,” McMullen said. “Our children want to play. My children can’t even go out the door because of this violence. Please put your weapons down. ”

The family said it was a normal way out for Jaslyn and her father to go to McDonalds.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke of the shooting on Twitter on Sunday night, saying she was “broken and angry” and called for an end to the “epidemic of gun violence.”
