More than 100 Wake County employees and students tested positive for coronavirus in one week, according to the district’s coronavirus dashboard.
Sixty-nine students tested positive for coronavirus between December 10 and December 16, and 59 employees tested positive.
The first group of coronaviruses was also reported in the Lynn Road Elementary School district. Three employees and two students tested positive at school.
One week before – between December 3 and December 9 – more than 80 cases of the virus were reported throughout the area.
Most cases are found in several schools in the district, according to the dashboard. The Wake County Board of Education agreed Tuesday with a staff recommendation that all students return to distance learning only to complete the fall semester.
All students will switch to online learning from January 4 to January 15, when the semester ends.
Since Thanksgiving, Wake County has seen an increase in reported cases of the virus. More than 400 cases were reported in Wake County on Wednesday. In the same period last month, only 232 cases of the virus were reported in one day.
