650 people were vaccinated today against COVID in Vieques

The Department of Health reported tonight that a total of 650 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 today, March 10, during the massive event that took place at the María M. Simmons De Rivera school in the island municipality of Vieques.

With this effort, Salud hopes to complete the inoculation of Viequenses to gain community immunity. However, they realized that there are citizens of other municipalities, such as Naranjito, who also line up to receive the vaccine.

When asked if people from other municipalities would receive a penalty, the official simply said he would move to “see what could be done.”

According to the data provided by the National Guard, in this municipality approximately 3,626 people were vaccinated in total for the first vaccination phase. In addition, another 868 people are vaccinated in the second phase.

On the other hand, given this vaccination effort, Governor Pedro Pierluisi announced that the tourism sector of the island municipality could start gradually.

According to Pierluisi Urrutia, the changes in tourism could be part of the new executive order he intends to announce tomorrow. However, if measures are included in this regard, the document will enter into force on Monday.
