616 new people tested positive for, six die with, COVID-19

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Several people in Iowa tested positive for the new coronavirus, according to new state data, while several people who died were reported to officials on Friday morning.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Iowa Department of Public Health said 616 people who tested positive for the virus had been added to the statewide total since Friday, which is now 356,460.

Six more people who died of COVID-19 have been added to the state total, which is 5,849 since the beginning of the pandemic.

218 people are hospitalized in Iowa with COVID-19, a net drop of 10 on Friday morning. 52 of these people are in intensive care units, a net increase of three. 19 of these patients require the use of a ventilator, a net decrease of one. 47 people were recently admitted to Iowa hospitals with the virus in the 24-hour reporting period, a number similar to the previous day.

A total of 1,794,368 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Iowa so far, an increase of 46,143 from the same hour on Saturday. 733,783 people completed their vaccination course, either with two-shot vaccines or the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine, an increase of 22,035.

The tests performed for the first time on 3,003 people were reported to the state in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate for this test batch was 20.5%, slightly higher than the previous day’s 20.0%. A total of 1,663,687 people have been tested for the virus since the pandemic began.
