The 49ers could enter the 2021 draft with an eye on a few other transactions. They have the capital project to move around the board of directors and have done well enough in the free agency to be able to address certain specific needs during the project. General manager John Lynch will not have to sit down and let the project happen – he can make a few moves to defeat the players the team wants.

We tried to simulate some of these movements in our regular session on Sunday with the PFF sketch simulator. This time I executed a three-round mockery and pressed the trigger on a single transaction back and a couple trades to meet some specific needs for San Francisco. We also ended it with a transaction that did not involve a project choice.

Here is:

Fields checks a lot of boxes to choose a top sketch, and in many years he may be the first on the board. He is a big 6-3, 227 pounds, has a big arm and a ton of athletics. Fields also seems to carry a lot of intangible teams looking for a franchise signal caller. In two years at Ohio State, Fields completed 68.4% of his throws for 5,373 yards, 63 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also averaged 9.3 meters per try. The 49ers are also in a place where they can let him sit and fix some of his warts in his game before taking over full time as a starter.

Jacksonville receives: Pick No. 43 (Round 2) and 155 (Round 5)

San Francisco receives: Pick No. 45 (Round 2) and 106 (Round 4)

Getting the first choice in the fourth round and giving up one of the three options in the fifth round to return to two places in the second round is a good move, without the need for a player available in the 43rd round. of choice.

Molden would be a really nice discovery after trading in Round 2. He is a defender behind a Tyrann Mathieu or Budda Baker who can line up and be effective in several places. The 49ers could use it as a Swiss Army knife this year before moving it full-time into the slot or safe in the coming seasons. Moldova in four years with the Huskies posted 153 approaches, 7.0 approaches for losses, five interceptions and 19 passes.

Tennessee receives: Pick No. 102 (Round 3) and 117 (Round 4)

San Francisco receives: Pick No. 85

This is the kind of move we can see from the 49ers on Draft Day, where they unload some of their capital in the middle of the round to target a certain player they want, rather than letting the draft through.

Joseph will be a popular selection from Day 2 in our taunts. He has no experience with just 15 college games, but his combination of size, athletics and production last season makes him a very interesting prospect. The 49ers may need to let it sit for a year to help it grow, but the long-term project is to be an outer corner of the original caliber.

Baltimore Receives: Pick No. 106 (Round 4) and 194 (Round 6)

San Francisco receives: Choose no. 104 (round 3)

This is another mid-term liquidation of assets to meet a particular need. Jumping in two places and eliminating a sixth round pick to do so is a good move if a starting caliber player is around.

Green had a truly impressive college career. He landed on the Illinois campus as defensive equipment and worked there while in his freshman season. His jump to the offensive line came before the following year, when he started all 12 games in the left guard for Illini. During his tenure, he also started playing games at the center. His athleticism and versatility make him a strong prospect for the 49ers who need a better depth inside.

Chicago receives: Pick No. 172

San Francisco receives: WR Anthony Miller

Bears may be able to get more than that if there are more bidders for Miller. San Francisco may have to throw a player or move a previous team away from Miller to Chicago. However, it is a good slot receiver that could easily take over Kendrick Bourne.
