44 kilos of cocaine from the Dominican Republic seized in Puerto Rico

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported on Wednesday that it seized a 96-pound (44 kilogram) cargo of cocaine worth $ 1.3 million in the port of San Juan, with a ship from the Dominican Republic .

As detailed by CBP in a press release, the drug was found in a container cooling fan aboard the M / V GH Pampero freighter, which arrived at a dock in San Juan from the port of Rio Haina, Dominican Republic.

No one related to the shipment of drugs has been arrested.

According to CBP, a smuggling control team from their agency boarded the ship for a routine inspection of the containers using non-intrusive inspection technology.

One container was further inspected by opening the container’s cooling opening access panel, where CBP agents discovered 41 stone-shaped objects, which then tested positive for cocaine properties.

“Smugglers continue to find ways to hide their illegal drug shipments in the international supply chain,” said Noel De Jesús, acting deputy director of border security field operations in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

“Our agents’ experience, along with the use of all available tools, resulted in the detection of these narcotics. Our communities can feel safer knowing that the men and women of CBP are securing their borders,” he added.

CBP is a border agency whose mission is to keep terrorists out of United States territory. EFE
