412 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death and another 12,631 vaccinations reported Sunday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – In its daily update, the Utah Department of Health reported on Sunday another 412 confirmed cases of COVID-19, one death and another 12,631 vaccines administered in the state.

Overall, this brings Utah to 374,850 cases, 1,976 coronavirus-related deaths and 855,663 vaccines given since the beginning of the pandemic. The Department of Health says 309,882 Utahns are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which requires two photos of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines or a dose of the recently approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The Department of Health reports 191 Utahns are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19, including 73 in intensive care. The state uses just over 71% of its total intensive care capacity.

Sunday’s numbers are coming, while 8,818 more tests have been performed. In the last week, the state has an average of 519 additional cases per day and a positive test rate of 4.4%.

The death reported on Sunday was of a man from Cache County, aged between 45 and 64, who was hospitalized when he died. Utah is fast approaching 2,000 total coronavirus deaths during the pandemic, but its fortunes have improved in the past month as the vaccine distribution has inoculated many of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Starting Monday, all Utahns over the age of 50 will be eligible to schedule a coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine is also available for Utahns with certain basic conditions. The full list of eligible conditions is available at coronavirus.utah.gov/vaccine.
