3 things Matt Canada as OC means to the Steelers

According to several reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers intend to replace former offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner by promoting within him. As expected, the Steelers intend to promote quarterback Matt Canada’s coach, rather than interview outside candidates. Canada joined the coaching staff in 2020 after being head coach in Maryland.

Here are three things we expect from Canada’s offense

One thing that Canada has been known about as an offensive coordinator or head coach is its tendency to use multiple teams even for the same game. Canda loves to use change and movement to create mismatches and force the defense to make adjustments.

Let’s not have children. If Ben Roethlisberger returns in 2021, the Steelers will not run the pro-style spread that Canada has led to Maryland. Not everything in the scheme fits Roethlisberger’s style, and Canada had a year on this staff to understand that. He will not try to force Roethlisberger to do things he is not comfortable with at this point in his career.

If the Steelers don’t re-sign James Conner, don’t be shocked if Canada doesn’t follow McFarland to the starting line because of their relationship and McFarland’s experience in this offense. McFarland is the only threat to the team’s home team among the running backs and assuming the offensive line will receive a major overhaul this season could flourish.
