SAN DIEGO (AP) – A driver plowed through a crowd on a sidewalk in downtown San Diego Monday morning, killing three people and injuring six others, including two hospitalized in critical condition, the report said. Police.
The driver – who was only identified by authorities as a 71-year-old man – appeared to be driving with disabilities when his car suddenly turned off the street at a community college shortly after 9:00 am and briefly took to the sidewalk before returning to the road. , said San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit.
Nisleit said the driver identified himself to the police and was arrested. Police had previously stated that he had tried to flee.
Multiple ambulances responded to the scene near City College, where it is a busy area with students passing by on a weekday morning. There is also a large homeless population in the area.
