78 Golden Globe awards began Sunday night after being delayed by almost two months by coronavirus pandemic. “Nomadland” won the award for best dramatic film and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” won the best comedy film. Andra Day won Best Actress in a Drama for “United States vs. Billie Holiday ”and Chadwick Boseman received posthumously the award for best actor in a drama for what became his final film role in “Ma Rainey’s black ass. “
Chloé Zhao, who directed “Nomadland”, became only the second woman to win the best director. Jane Fonda received the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Norman Lear became the third recipient of the Carol Burnett Award.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the two-story virtual ceremony, with Fey performing at the Rainbow Room in New York City and Poehler hosting the Beverly Hilton in California, where award ceremony it is traditionally held.
Netflix led the package with 42 nominations. “Mank”, the film of the streaming service about the screenwriter “Citizen Kane”, Herman Mankiewicz, received the most nominations from any film this year with six, although it failed to win any of these awards. Netflix’s “Crown” also received six nominations, most for any television series this year. The historical drama won awards for best drama, best actress, best actor and best supporting actress.
