2 arrested for attacking passengers using racial insult, flight diverted to PHX

American Airlines says two women were arrested Thursday after verbally and physically assaulting other passengers and crew on a flight that was diverted to Phoenix.

The airline said the flight was moving from Dallas-Fort Worth to Los Angeles, when it was diverted due to an altercation of customers in flight, around 17:15.

Once the flight arrived in Phoenix, local law enforcement officers removed and arrested two passengers, who were later identified as 30-year-old Kelly Pichardo and 29-year-old Leeza Rodriguez for assault. verbally and physically other customers and crew members.

Phoenix police officers say the two women were using racial insults when a male passenger asked them not to use bad language.

Pichardo allegedly spat at the man who then began recording the two women. Officers say Rodriguez then hit the man’s hand to prevent him from recording them.

American Airlines officials said that “their behavior was disturbing and unacceptable and they were included in our internal list of wastes pending further investigation.”

Rodriguez was reserved for disorderly conduct, and Pichardo was reserved for aggression and disorderly conduct

The flight continued to LAX from Los Angeles and arrived without further incident.
