185 new COVID-19 cases, with nearly 5K more vaccinations reported Monday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased Monday by 185, with no new deaths and nearly 5,000 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The new numbers of cases were the result of another 2,519 COVID-19 tests performed. The average continuous number of seven positive days a day is now 398, according to the health department. This figure has remained between 396.3 and 406.3 new cases per day since the beginning of April.

The positive daily test rate for that time period calculated using the “people over people” method is now 7.4% after updating the numbers for months. The positive daily test rate for that period calculated using the “test over test” method is now 3.7%.

There are now 122 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, state data show. Of these, 61 were hospitalized in intensive care units. The data show that both the figures for the use of the referral center and the state level were percentages that would trigger a warning.

A total of 1,708,002 doses of the vaccine were administered in the state, up from 1,703,065 on Sunday. The Department of Health reported that just over 1.1 million Utahns have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and more than 680,000 Utahns are fully vaccinated.

Monday’s totals give Utah 390,289 total confirmed cases as of March 2020, including 8,825 COVID-19 cases currently active in the state. There were also 15,770 total hospitalizations and 2,159 total deaths due to the disease during that period.

Figures reported on Monday indicate a less than 1% increase in positive cases on Sunday. Of the most people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, about 1.6% tested positive for COVID-19.

Spencer Cox, the governor of Utah, is scheduled to provide a COVID-19 update during his monthly press conference with PBS Utah at 10 a.m. Thursday.
