WASATCH COUNTY, Utah – A teenage driver died Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident on US Highway 189 near Deer Creek Reservoir.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old boy was driving a Honda Civic north near Milestone 24, about a mile south of Charleston, at around 1:30 a.m., when his vehicle drifted off the right side of the highway. He corrected too hard, ran into oncoming traffic and swept aside a Subaru Crosstrek.
The Civic then turned and was hit on the driver’s side by a Toyota Sienna minivan heading south.
The teenager was pronounced dead on the spot.
The Subaru’s occupants were unharmed, and those in the minivan were taken to area hospitals to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed in both directions for about three hours.
UHP said it was unknown why the driver initially drifted off the road.
His name has not been disclosed.
