134 undocumented Haitians arrested in a hotel owned by Elías Piña

The director general of migration, Enrique García, revealed that members of this organization arrested 134 undocumented Haitians who were trying to enter the country illegally during a night operation in two hotels in the municipality of Comendador, in Elías Piña.

The group consists of 36 men, 45 women and 15 children who were housed in the two small centers.

García explained that the operation was carried out when members of the migration services and the Intelligence Directorate of the national army surrounded the Pedrín and Los Tres Hermanos hotels.

He added that these investigative agencies had received confidential information to the effect that a group of undocumented Haitians who had entered the country were hiding in those places.

Regarding the operation, Enrique García warned that the General Directorate of Migration will reduce the full weight of the law against those caught trafficking in human beings through the border points of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

“This is an inhuman, unacceptable practice,” he added. He stressed that the migration, search and detention operations of aliens in an irregular situation will continue, not only in the border area, but throughout the country.

He stressed that all types of vehicles, such as trucks, buses and engines, which are used in the trafficking of undocumented aliens are detained and for which their owners have to pay a fine to recover them.

García said that the detainees were taken to the Reception Center of the General Directorate of Migration and will be returned to their country in the next few hours.
