On Monday, ten people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. One person has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting and officials said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

One of the victims was identified as 51-year-old Boulder police officer Eric Talley.

Police said the person in question has been injured and is being treated in hospital. Earlier, helicopter footage from CBS Denver showed authorities escorting a shirtless man in handcuffs who appeared to have a bleeding leg from the crime scene, but at a news conference Monday night, officials did not want to confirm whether that man matters the person.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene when a number of loud bangs went off in the supermarket. One man said he first thought someone dropped something in the store – but on the third shot, he said, everyone started running.

“I can’t believe it’s happening in Boulder,” he told CBS Denver.

The parking lot outside the store was filled with police vehicles, officers and first responders arriving on the scene Monday afternoon. At 2:49 pm local time, the Boulder Police Department warned residents of an active shooter on Twitter.

Governor Jared Polis tweeted“Like my fellow Coloradans, I keep a close eye on the events at King Soopers in Boulder. My prayers are with our fellow Coloradans at this time of grief and sorrow as we learn about the scale of the tragedy. “
