Walmart stores in Durham, Knightdale evacuated after bomb threats :: WRAL.com

– Authorities are investigating bomb alerts in two different Walmart stores on Sunday morning.

A Walmart in Knightdale was evacuated for a bomb threat.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed an active bomb threat at Walmart at 7106 Knightdale Blvd. At around 8:30 a male test subject called the store to say he had placed devices in the building and threatened to detonate them if his needs were not met.

At 10:30 am, police said there appeared to be no threat in the store. Everyone was evacuated safely.

“The content of those demands lead us to believe there are other issues at play,” said Knightdale Police Chief Lawrence Capps.

A woman told WRAL that emergency personnel rushed to the Knightdale store and told her to leave.

“It’s like, oh my god, what did I just drive into?” said Kris Minton. “It was a terrifying experience.”

The sheriff’s office is asking the public to avoid the area.

In addition, Durham Police are investigating that a bomb threat has been made at Walmart at 1525 Glenn School Rd. in Durham. Agents blocked the entrances to the store, which is located between Interstate 85 and E. Geer St.

A crime scene tape hung around the building, showing employees leaving the store.

It is not known whether the two threats are linked. No explosives were found as of 9.45 am.

WRAL is working to learn more.
