Trump announces US-approved Moderna vaccine – Salud

President Donald Trump said on Friday on Twitter that the vaccine against COVID-19 from the American laboratory Moderna has been approved.

“The Moderna vaccine has been overwhelmingly approved. Distribution will begin immediately.” wrote the head of the White House on Twitter.

A decision by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the vaccine was expected on Friday, one day after a committee of experts recommended its approval.

The President also addressed “Europe and other parts of the world that are severely affected by the Chinese virus: especially Germany, France, Spain and Italy”, assuring them that “vaccines are on the way”.

Moderna sent a request to the FDA in late November for “emergency authorization” of its mRNA-1273 vaccine against coronavirus. Earlier, the company said that during clinical trials in the third phase of its vaccine, involving 30,000 volunteers, it showed an efficacy of 94.1%, while the efficacy of the drug against severe forms of the disease is 100%.
