The Red Sox wake up early to defeat the White Sox

BOSTON – Kiké Hernández opened the game with a field run that required a video review and Bobby Dalbec traded a 14-step walk in a first half of six runs that propelled the Red Sox to an 11-4 victory over Chicago. White Sox in the first Patriot Day game played without coinciding with the Boston Marathon.

The marathon will take place on October 11 due to restrictions imposed by the state of Massachusetts to avoid massive public congregations due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Patriots Day game, which usually begins shortly after 11 a.m., has been held at Fenway Park since 1959. Only 4,738 fans showed up.

Lucas Giolito (1-1) was eliminated with two men in circulation, with no exits in the second. He allowed eight runs – seven won – and eight shots, taking his ERA from 2.55 to 5.79.

Nathan Eovaldi (3-1) equalized his career with 10 shots in 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and nine shots without a walk.

JD Martinez produced two runs with one individual run and one run, while Alex Verdugo hit a solo home run.

For the White Sox, Cubans José Abreu 4-0, Luis Robert 4-1, an RBI; and Yasmani Grandal 3-0. Dominicans Yermín Mercedes 4-1 and Leury García 4-1, one scored.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández 6-2, two runs and an RBI; and Christian Vázquez of 5-3 two scored. Mexican Alex Verdugo 4-3, two also scored an RBI. Dominicans Rafael Devers 3-2, two goals and an RBI; and Franchy Cordero 4-2, two RBIs. Venezuelan Marwin González 3-1, one scored and one RBI.
